FAWN: [00:00:00] Ah. Welcome back everybody. Welcome to our Friendly World. I wanna talk about time, and I won't take up too much time. It's going to be a very short episode, but there's some phenomenon out there happening with time. Have you all noticed? We've been talking about it for a while, but time is speeding up.
Isn't it?
MATT: Hello everyone. Is it?
FAWN: It's not just me. 'cause I thought, okay, maybe it's just us and , our generation or our, like whatever age people are, but little kids are saying the same thing. Usually you would hear like people that were old and like retired and they're like, I don't know what day it is.
But I feel not, I feel I've been hearing everybody say it, including little kids. Little kids that are actually in school and they have a schedule, like Monday we're doing this, Tuesday we're doing karate, you know, Wednesday. And they're like, what [00:01:00] day is it? I don't even know what day it is. I feel like a lot of people are saying that and time is moving so fast and there's so much change happening at such a rapid scale that it's kind of scary.
'cause I started to think, oh no, because like I think of something that I did that doesn't feel like that long ago, but it was many years ago, and I start having this panic, like, oh, I'm getting old. Like how much time do I have left on the planet? Like I go there, I get scared. Ouch. And then I start to think, well, no little kids are feeling the same way, right?
And so time could be moving fast, but it doesn't mean my face could be moving with it, so I can still stay looking young. You know, or like still be flexible and stuff, you know what I'm saying? I do. So time can go by fast, but it doesn't mean that my body has to age or my mind has to age, or [00:02:00] that I become stiff and inflexible, you know what I'm saying?
MATT: Mm-hmm. I do.
FAWN: So my, my takeaway and my. thing to pass on to everybody today, this week is thinking about time. Treat it as a flexible bendy thing that, how can I say this? something that is swirly. It's not concrete,
MATT: okay?
FAWN: It doesn't define you true. It's an experience.
MATT: Yes,
FAWN: that's it.
It doesn't mean you're old, it doesn't mean anything like that. So let time go by fast. Go for it. Have at, we're going to experience a lot fast and we're going to stay flexible. What do you think? Why'd you fold your arms all of a sudden?
MATT: Ohm pondering and I'm, I'm just about to start pontificating, so that fair warning.
How often would you say you are bored? [00:03:00]
FAWN: I'm never bored. I was bored when I was a kid where I had no control over anything. Mm-hmm. I remember being bored. Mm-hmm. Like I had no, yeah. When I had no control, like. I couldn't leave the house. I, um, I didn't really have anything.
MATT: Right.
FAWN: I didn't have toys, you know, I grew up a weird way.
Mm-hmm. But I, I remember sitting there and wanting to cry from boredom.
MATT: Right.
FAWN: But as I got older, I'm like, wow, there's so much to explore. Even if I'm sitting meditating, I can explore other universes in my behind my eyes.
MATT: Mm-hmm.
FAWN: So never. Bored. Why? Why are you asking? Well,
MATT: it's just when it, so for me, when it feels like time is like racing past, I really try and focus on, okay, what are you doing in this moment that you're feeling like time is going by so fast?
Oh, well I am, you know, and I usually have a big, long checklist [00:04:00] of things that I'm doing. And it's something I actually even noticed in, I like to play computer games. Something I noticed in computer games is it went from being kind of a straight line narrative or like a board game ish type experience to a, you always have three or four things you could be doing.
Side quests versus the main quest versus personal quest versus whatever. So there's always lots to do and the games seemed shorter, so it's almost like our life is this way too. We're constantly, we constantly have side quests and that just means it's something you don't have to complete to beat the game, but it's something that you might want to do because you might get a good trophy because of it.
FAWN: I wanna disagree. Because there are things that I do one thing only. Mm-hmm. And yet time goes by so fast.
MATT: Okay.
FAWN: Like, for example, a friend will come [00:05:00] over and we'll just be sitting or standing or whatever. We're just having one conversation. Mm-hmm. Next thing you know, four or five hours have gone by, but it to both of us
it felt like 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the sun has set it's dark outside where like we met at like. 10 in the morning, you know?
MATT: Right.
FAWN: Um, like, and I thought it was just me, but then the other person is like, what just happened?
MATT: But you have a free ranging all over the place conversation that kind of occupies your Yeah.
But it still, for lack of a better word, it's
FAWN: not like we're doing. A bunch of things, right?
MATT: But it, I think it, the situation gets exacerbated when you're doing a whole bunch of things or you, you want to get done a whole bunch of things. You're making
FAWN: excuses. I'm talking about there's something going on within our universe where time has sped up, okay?
You don't believe me. You know
MATT: what? Every time you and the kids go out and I'm, I'm quote unquote, home [00:06:00] alone, and this doesn't happen very often. It feels like time goes by very slowly. Every single time, and it doesn't matter how much or how little I have to do, it feels like the time is going by slowly.
FAWN: I think you and I are not understanding each other right now. Okay. What I'm talking about, I think for all of humanity, time has gone by fast,
MATT: right? And I, I won't argue that at all because I would, I would say that humanity at its core is trying to do too many things all at once. Agree, everything. I agree with you all at once with I
FAWN: agree with you.
Yes, that is true. I don't think that's the reason. Okay. I really don't. Okay. I think something is happening. Don't look at me like that. Dun, dun dun.
I think it's, a spiritual thing. I also think it's a, quantum thing. Okay.
MATT: There's not a lot I can do to argue with that.
FAWN: You don't, but you don't agree?
MATT: No.
FAWN: You don't agree?
MATT: Nope. I can make time pass so slowly if I want to.
FAWN: I think you're stuck in the past. Good [00:07:00] for you. Yay for me. Not happening.
I mean, nevermind. Anyway, what I was going to say was.
Now I forgot what I was gonna say. I had a point and I had advice about time going by fast.
Go with the flow.
It is like, come on, you're a star Trekky person. I am a Star Trek person. It's like going through a portal
and whatever you, you're just going through a portal and going into this other realm. No biggie. It's like normal. So you just go with the flow. Instead of tripping out on, oh my God, that was actually 30 years ago it felt like maybe seven years ago.
MATT: Ah, that aspect of things. Yes. Our world. What do you
FAWN: mean?
That aspect of things? This is what happened, talking about this whole time world is
MATT: almost unidentifiable from where it was. Oh, now you agree with me. Even seven years ago. Uh, uh, uh, come however, the same amount of time has gone by. [00:08:00] Which was the crux.
FAWN: Okay. We all have different interpretations of time.
Maybe.
MATT: I'm sorry. I'm frustrated.
FAWN: I'm so frustrated right now. Anyway, that's all I had to say. Why don't you just take over from here. Go ahead.
MATT: I'm sorry. Sweet pea.
FAWN: It's okay. Go ahead.
MATT: Go ahead. I'm not sure what else to say.
FAWN: Alright, go with the flow everybody. That's the mission for this week. Go with the flow. I know there's a lot of crazy stuff out there happening. Honestly, it's very, I don't even know. Is it scary? Is it, is it, what is it? It's maddening. It is frightening. It is infuriating.
Yes, I'm talking about politics, but I mean, it, it has affected every aspect. I cannot. I can't even be friends with certain people right now. Um, anyway, um, there it is. I don't know. I don't know. [00:09:00] All I know is things are moving rapidly, swirling all about. We just gotta surf it.
MATT: Oh, well that sounds like really good advice, period. Full stop.
FAWN: I guess, I mean, unless the wave takes you under, what are you supposed to do? What do you do when a wave takes you underneath? You just have to kind of relax. Yes. And the, the current will bring you back up. Mm.
MATT: Hopefully the current will bring you back up,
FAWN: and then if not,
MATT: I wouldn't know because the current always, or rather, I always end up floating to the surface, so.
Oh, thank goodness.
FAWN: Anyway, just be chill, man. Be cool
MATT: it, it feels like maybe we are teeny tiny little fleas riding on a big, giant polar bear.
FAWN: I think we're great. I think we're huge. I think we are magnificent, all powerful beings.
I think we need to enjoy. Enjoy the hell out of it no [00:10:00] matter what is happening. Okay. All right. That's it from me guys. I'm out. Okay. But I'm always here if you need me, so email me or us. Sorry. Us. Okay? Okay. Have a beautiful every day everybody be
MATT: well.
